Under the Agreement with the Volgodonsk branch of the AEM-technology company (part of the Rosatom machine-building division – Atomenergomash), the company AET Trans delivered the steam generator to Balakovo NPP. The equipment is intended to replace a similar device at the third power unit of the station. Replacement will be carried out as part of a large-scale modernization of power unit No. 3 in order to improve the heat and hydraulic characteristics.
The close-knit work of Atommash specialists, Balakovo NPP and our company allowed us to deliver a steam generator, made on an individual project, just in time. Commissioning is scheduled for this year.

The steam generator belongs to products of the first class of safety. The diameter is more than 4 m, the length of the device is about 15 meters. The equipment weight is 340 tons. The steam generator housing is a horizontal cylindrical vessel with two elliptical bottoms, in the middle of which there are collectors for supplying and discharging hot heat carrier. In the upper part of the body there is a steam space, in the lower part of the body of the steam generator there is a heat exchange surface, which consists of 11,000 stainless pipes. The diameter of the pipes is 16 mm, length – from 10 to 14 meters. The ends of the pipes are fixed in two collectors.
Balakovo NPP is Russia’s largest electricity producer. The NPP operates four power units with VVER-1000 type reactors. Each of the unified power units is a separate structure consisting of the reactor compartment, the machine room and the room of electrical devices. The equipment related to the first circuit, including steam generators, is located together with the reactor in a sealed reinforced concrete casing – containment.
